About the Author...

More than twenty years ago, Caron Kamps Widden left Southern California for Atlanta to begin a new life and a new career, and as it turned out -- it was only one of many adventures she would find herself writing about someday.  Shortly after arriving in the south, Caron met her husband, a transplant himself, from New York.  They married, and embarked upon a series of transfers around the country for her husband’s work.  While raising three children in a handful of houses, Caron found herself renovating and decorating each home with care.

Everywhere they moved, Caron took writing classes and attended writer's workshops, having always been fond of books and words.  In college, Caron fell in love with the classics, but she also admires many contemporary authors and revisits their work often.  Caron has written articles, short pieces and poems for literary journals and small newspapers and has lent a hand at such publications as, Orange Coast Magazine, and Zoetrope: All-Story, the literary magazine founded by Francis Ford Coppola.  A work in progress, Caron is always searching for a new venue from which to learn.  In writing Restoration, her first novel, Caron learned an important lesson -- perseverance.

When sitting down to write Restoration, Caron felt comfortable writing from a man’s point a view, having been surrounded by men her whole life and growing up with four brothers.  The story and characters were inspired by a collection of people and places from throughout the country and the world, not to mention, from the renovation projects Caron became involved with along the way.  Saratoga Springs, the setting for the book, is near where Caron and her family lived for two years in the mid-nineties.  John Greene, the protagonist, is a tribute to men who demonstrate great strength of character, and albeit, a bit clumsy at times, always try to do the right thing.

Busy at work on her second novel, Caron is devoted to creating characters and stories for which everyone can relate.  With her husband’s most recent transfer, Caron finds herself back home in Southern California  -- and in many ways, she feels the ‘new life’ she was once after has finally just begun.
